Q. Why can't I hear the audio on the web player.
A. In September 2017, Apple introduced a new autoplay policy for Safari (starting with v11 on OSX) and iOS. Google will introduce their new policy for Chrome 66 for Desktop and Mobile later this month. This policy change imposes new security rules on web video. It is intended to improve a user’s browsing experience by eliminating distractions and potential surprise when media automatically plays back unmuted content. Both Apple and Google indicate that this will provide users with more control over autoplay capabilities for websites visited.
In these browsers, additional preference and settings options are available to enable or disable autoplay or disable audio altogether. These options also provide users greater control of bandwidth/power consumption on their mobile devices. It is our understanding that Apple and Google will introduce an automated approach in which the browser determines autoplay behavior.
Google has stated that they will ship the newest version of Chrome in mid-April. It is our hope that users experiencing issues in Chrome (on both Desktop and Android versions) will have a more stable video viewing experience once the new version is available. Otherwise we currently suggest Mozilla Firefox for browsing our websites.
What this means in short, is that audio and video files automatically start with MUTED mode enabled when selected within Google and Safari browsers. Users will need to choose to unmute the audio once playback begins.
